Why would you say that?

"He's cute now, but wait until he's older..."

I've had so many variations of this phrase said to me, usually at the grocery store.  Half the time I want to say, "I know! Can you imagine how cute and fun he'll be in a few years".

I don't know why you would tell someone that their perfect, innocent baby is going to turn into a terror. I'm sure they are already aware that there are going to be hard days, because I'm sure there already have been some.

I'm learning that there are hard things that come with each age, but the good things very much out way the bad!  Riley is now able to get into pretty much everything,  he's making messes, but he's learning and I know that he is progressing like he should.  He can entertain himself now and I have a better excuse for a messy house.

One day he's going to be able to feed himself and not get messy, he will be able to talk and communicate his needs, I won't need to change diapers, he will be able to play tricks on Andrew with me, he will be able to help around the house, he will just keep getting more fun.

Riley is a blessing, he is making me a better person, and I'm happy he can be part of my life.  I know there will be hard times ahead, but there are also so many great ones that I'm excited for.

Now here is are some pictures of Riley.

He can pull himself up

He can do the dishes

He can clap.

He can also crawl very fast.  He looks a little scary though.

He can also stand by himself for about 45 seconds and take one step.  He's so fun.

  1. Very well written and very true. I wish I was able to learn and make as much progress as he is right now.
The pictures are priceless. I wish I could come play with him and watch him learn.

  2. Amen. I love that you wrote that. I hate when people say things like that. I love your attitude. The love you have for them and the happiness they bring you is SO HUGE it most certainly outweighs the blow outs and such. ;) It's fun to have them getting more mobile, but crazy how much they can get into! Good job Lindsay, I loved this. :)
