10 1/2 weeks old!

I was going to post something when Riley turned 2 months old, but that obviously didn't happen.  So here we are at almost 11 weeks.  Oh well

Riley Stats
Weight: 13 pounds 1 ounce (on February 24)
Weight of car seat with Riley in it: about 25 pounds
Size of Lindsay's biceps from carrying him up and down 3 flights of stairs: HUGE! Well, pretty big compared to what they have looked like :)
Length: 24.5 inches

Clothes size: 0-3 month, but not for long
Eyes:  Starting to look blue!
Sleeping: He's a night owl-- wonder where that came from.  For about a month now he won't stay asleep until 2:00 at night.  The last few nights he has slept from about 2:00 to 7:00, then eats and falls right back to sleep until 10:00.  Then in the day he sleeps when he wants.  Oh, and at night he sleeps in his car seat- that's where he will stay asleep.  That probably means we are bad parents but I don't care.

New Skills:
  • Smiling (for a few weeks now)
  • He can get his hands to his mouth to suck on them
  • He is also making a lot of new sounds
  • Drooling- so much drooling (I don't really know if that's a skill, more like a fact)
  • He's very aware at what is going on
  • His legs are strong, and he wants to be able to sit.  According to the doctor he acts like a 4 month old.  We will soon need to worry about baby proofing our apartment, not too excited about that.

Favorite things:
  • His binky

  • Anything with a screen
Proverbs 22:6  Train up a child in the way he should go:
and when he is old, he will not depart from it

  • Helping fold the clothes

  • Spitting up and then rubbing his face in it

 He's getting more fun everyday!

Andrew's school -- According to Lindsay

Andrew started his second (of three) semester at Carnegie Mellon in January. On Mondays and Wednesdays he has a class at 10:30 called Secure Software Systems.  The class teaches about security, and weaknesses in security, and hacking.  I think he likes it.  He is going to be starting a project where he has to write a pretty intense research paper with another person.  I don't think writing papers is his favorite thing, but sometimes you have to do things you don't like.

He has another class on Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:30 it is called Wireless Sensor Networks.  He is in a group with two other people, they have been working on projects a lot lately.  I feel like I know them pretty well because they work a lot at our house.  There last project was a whack a mole with little chip things.  I got the highest score they had ever seen, I was pretty proud until they told me the goal was to have the lowest score. . . I did better the next few times.
Andrew spends a lot of time in this building, it looks way better in this picture than in real life.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays he has a class at 10:30 called Leadership of Engineers, it's a very easy class. If he does everything he will get an A.  Apparently they've been learning about the same thing for the last 4 class periods, I guess he will know that stuff really good.  So it's easy, but kind of boring.

Andrew was trying to get into an Ipad development class, but he never got in.  The teacher said he could audit it, he went the first few weeks, but it is on iTunesU so he can just watch the lectures in his spare time.

For the most part I think he really likes it, and he is learning a lot.

Cutest Baby?

I'm pretty sure almost every parent thinks that their baby is the cutest baby that ever lived.  At least that's how I feel.  I see quite a few cute babies at church and on Facebook, but I'm sure mine is the cutest.  Lucky for me I have an honest primary class to humble me.

I love these shoes!
Last week was the first week Riley decided that he didn't want to sleep all through church (maybe sleeping in church is genetic?  Just kidding).  So we had him out in our primary class.  They were quick to point out some flaws. "He has bags under his eyes, like an old man" and "He doesn't have eyebrows!" (for the record he does, they are just blonde).  But three of the four still really wanted to hold him, so I guess he can't be that awful looking.

He got grumpy near the end of class time and I said that I should probably feed him in a few minutes.  The girl in our class said, "Can I feed him?" (at this point I knew I shouldn't have said anything)

I quickly replied, "No."  (well she can't)

"What?  Why not?  I know how to feed a baby a bottle"

"Ummm. . . He doesn't take a bottle."

"Ahhh Gross!"

One of the boys then asked, "then what does he take?"

"Uhhh. . ." I didn't really want to get into human anatomy with these kids so I just told him to ask his mom.

I think he ended up figuring it out, maybe not.  I guess we will see if his mother asks me tomorrow what we talked about in our class.

Anyway we have had multiple siblings say that he looks like a turtle. . . thanks guys.  But I guess a turtle isn't the worst thing he could look like.

This is the specific turtle he apparently looks like
I still think he is the best looking baby I've ever seen, but I'm sure that's because he's mine.  Also he looks like me - and that's cute for sure.  Also he looks like Andrew, obviously I think that's pretty handsome.
